Gloria Costellow posted the touching video above of her son Nick, who has Down syndrome and autism, saying "hello." Following a cancer scare, Tom and Gloria Costello decided to spend their lives changing the lives of others. Since then, the family has adopted 13 children with special needs. Gloria says, "everybody wants a family and everybody wants to belong."
Nick doesn't have many words so capturing this moment was especially important for Gloria. This is what she had to say about the video:
"Nick is 19 now, he came home to us at 14 months. He was the first child we adopted with special needs and because of loving him we discovered our purpose in this life. He is a doll, so sweet, I get a kick out of the way he looks in the video like, Who just said that? My niece Meredith made the video with him. She is in graduate school becoming a speech therapist. She comes here after classes and holds our homework club helping to get it done each night. Three years ago we also adopted an 8yr old little girl with Down syndrome and Autism (Miss Lily) but because she was an institutional placement and so long without a family she has yet to utter her first words." - Gloria Costello
